Black Oxide is a black finish on a metal produced by immersing it in hot oxidizing salts or salt solutions. It is a lustrous finish, uniform in appearance and efficiently absorbs solar radiation. Although quite thin it is surprisingly resistant to wear and is an attractive, economically applied finish.
